Honokaa football parking rules
Because of health and safety concerns, fan parking inside the gate during football games is no longer allowed.
Parking is allowed along Pakalana, Ohelo and Mamane streets; in the lot behind the cafeteria; in the lot next to the band room; in the lot in front of the auto shop; and at the county complex.
No tents, coolers or outside food is allowed at any Honokaa athletic event. Chairs are allowed at football games.

HPA to host fun run/dog walk benefit
Hawaii Preparatory Academy invites runners, walkers, friendly canines and families to participate in the fourth Bieni 5K Fun Run and Dog Walk at 9 a.m. Sunday on the school’s cross-country course.
Net proceeds from the event will fund the annual Bieni Kohler-Johnson ’83 Scholarship at HPA. Click here for registration and pledges.
Entry fee is $25 for adults, $10 for students 10 and younger; an additional late fee of $10 now applies.

Fitness paddleboard, canoe race
Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel will host the Hulakai and Da Hui Race to Fitness on Saturday.
The race, about 7.5 miles from Kapalaoa Beach to Hapuna Beach, is open to novice paddlers and elite racers. There will be an Elite division for SUP and OC1; the top three finishers in men’s and women’s races will receive prize money.

Bowling teams wanted
Individuals and teams are wanted for the winter bowling season at KBXtreme in Kailua-Kona.
There are three nights of league play: Mondays, mixed — four bowlers per team; Thursdays, women — three per team; Fridays, mixed — three per team. Play starts at 6 p.m.
The deadline to form teams is Oct. 15.

Japanese civic club holds golf tourney
The Kona Japanese Civic Association will hold a golf tournament Oct. 5 at Makalei Golf Course.
Registration starts at 7 a.m., with shotgun start at 8.
The entry fee is $100, which includes continental breakfast, pupu, lunch and prizes.
The format will be two-person scramble, and team handicap will be determined by using 80 percent of team handicap.
Golfers 75 and older may use forward tees; indicate at registration with your index.
Hole sponsors are welcome to help KJCA continue to promote Japanese culture.

Volunteers needed for Puuwaawaa run
Volunteers are needed for the Run for the Dry Forest on Oct. 25.
Volunteers will work from 6 a.m. to noon. Two types of positions are available: Course marshals will direct runners and first aid station workers will hand out food and drink to runners.

The races are 10K, 5K run/walk and keiki run. Fees are $30 for ages 15 and older, $15 for 14 and younger, and include T-shirts and refreshments. Fees go toward the conservation and restoration of dry forests at Puuwaawaa.

County presents Keiki Triathlon
The Hawaii County Department of Parks and Recreation and the Hawaii Isle Police Activities League will hold the third annual Keiki Triathlon as part of the Mayor’s Health Fest 2014 on Oct. 18, at Old Kona Airport Park.
Children ages 7 to 14 are invited to participate in a miniature version of the Ironman World Championship: 100-yard swim, 3.2-mile bicycle race and 1-mile run. The 7- and 8-year-olds will race half those distances.
The entrance fee is $5 per child. Registration ends Oct. 3. Forms are available at county swimming pools, gymnasiums and other staffed recreational sites, or can be downloaded at hawaiicounty.gov/parks-and-recreation.
